Homer Glen is located 32 miles (51 km) southwest of downtown Chicago, in Homer Township, Will County, Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 24,543. The boundaries of the village of Homer Glen are one half-mile block south of 131st Street to the north (along the Cook County border) The three major roads in the village are Bell Road, which runs North-South, 143rd Street, and 159th Street, which both run East-West. There are two grade school districts and one high-school district serving the village. Homer Glen is home to St. Bernard's Parish and Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish, both Roman Catholic churches. It is also home to 15 other churches of the Christian faith. The village is the site of the Sri Ramakrishna Universal Temple, a branch of the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago. The Homer Glen area is part of the Chicago metropolitan area for television, radio, and newspaper coverage. The Chicago Sun-Times, the Joliet Tribune, and the Chicago Herald are widely available in Homer Glen. The area is primarily covered by The Homer Horizon newspaper, which has a circulation of approximately 13,400 homes and businesses in neighboring Homer Glen and neighboring Lockport. The village shares its boundaries with the city of Lockport (in Lockport Township, Will County) to the west and Lemont (in Lemont Township), Orland Park, and New Lenox (in NewLenox Township, Cook County) in the north. The city of Lemont is in Lemont County, and the village is in Orland Township. Homer Glen is in Cook County's Lake County and Lake County's Winnebago County. It is located on the Illinois River, which flows through Lemont, Orland, Lockport, and Winneshiek Counties. It has a population of 2,000. The town is located in the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the cities of Chicago, Naperville, Evanston, and Willow Springs. Homer Glen is located on the Illinois Turnpike, which runs from Chicago to Illinois State University in Carbondale. The village is home to a number of sports teams, including baseball, football, lacrosse, and soccer. It is also the site of the Illinois State Fair, which takes place in September and October. The Homer Glen High School football team has a team that competes in the Illinois High School State Championship. The team is known as the "Homers" and is based in Lockport, Illinois. The St. John Serbian Orthodox Church is also home to the St. Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. The city is located on the banks of the Allegheny River, which runs through the center of Homer Glen. It was once part of the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but has since been annexed by the City of Pittsburgh and is now a suburb of Pittsburgh with a population of 2.5 million. The town is also known for being a hotbed of illegal activity, particularly drug dealing and drug dealing.
