Pierz was named for Father Francis Xavier Pierz (Slovene: Franc Pirc), a Slovenian Roman Catholic priest who came to Minnesota in the early 1850s as a missionary to the native Ojibwe people. The town was incorporated on January 12, 1892, under the name Rich Prairie, but on August 15, 1894, the residents voted to change the name to Pierz in F. X. Pierz's honor. The city has an area of 1.35 square miles (3.50 km²), all land. Minnesota State Highways 25 and 27 are two of the main routes in the city. The median income for a household in Pierz was $34,292, while the per capita income for the city was $14,638. Every year, Pierz celebrates Oktoberfest during the last weekend in August. There is a daily medallion with the winner getting the $500 prize for winning the daily "PierZ" contest. The winner gets the prize of $500 in cash or $1,500 in gift cards every day for the rest of the year. In 2010, there were 1,393 people, 585 households, and 339 families living in the town. History

Pierz is the primary city name, but also Harding are acceptable city names or spellings, Genola on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Pierz. Pierz was named for Father Francis Xavier Pierz (Slovene: Franc Pirc), a Slovenian Roman Catholic priest who came to Minnesota in the early 1850s as a missionary to the native Ojibwe people. The town was incorporated on January 12, 1892, under the name Rich Prairie, but on August 15, 1894, the residents voted to change the name to Pierz in F. X. Pierz's honor. It is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota, on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, a body of water known as the Red River. The city has a population of about 2,000. It was incorporated in 1892 under the names Rich Prairie and Pierz, but the name was changed in 1894. The name Pierz was adopted in honor of the Slovenian priest, who was a missionary in the state in the 1850s and 1860s. The current mayor of Pierz is Mark Schmitz, a former mayor of Rich Prairie who served as mayor from 1989 to 1994. The U.N. World Heritage Site is in Pierz and was established in 1998. It has been named for the Slovenia-born Roman Catholic Priest, who came in the 1840s and 1850s to work with the Native Americans in Minnesota. It also has a museum, the Pierz Museum, which was dedicated to the memory of Father Pierz. The Pierz River runs through the center of the town.

Arts and culture

Pierz is home to Independent School District 484, where close to 1,200 students are served in grades preK-12. The 2017 football season, led by coach Leo Pohlkamp, won the state title. The Pierz Commercial Club's Rock, Roll, & Stroll event takes place on Main Street on the first Thursday of June, July, August, and September. During the R.R.S. classic cars roll-in to Pierz to park. Car owners, admirers, and pedestrians can find local food stands, business specials, and entertainment throughout town. In 2015, the prizes totaled over $1,000.
