North Branch is a city in Chisago County, Minnesota, United States, at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 95. It is named for the north branch of the Sunrise River, which flows through the city. North Branch became a township in 1861, and incorporated in 1881. In 1901 North Branch split into a village covering the more densely populated downtown area and a township covering the rest of the former village. The township later incorporated as the village of Branch in 1961. The two cities talked about a potential merger for years, beginning in the late 1970s. A referendum on the issue was held in 1984, and failed. A second referendum was held on September 13, 1994, and passed. The city has a total area of 36.04 square miles (93.34 km²), of which, 35.60 squaremile (92.20 km²) is land and 0.44 square mile (1.14 km²") is water. Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 36.04 square miles (93.34 km²) of which 35.60 square miles is land and 0.44 sq miles (1.14 km² is water. The city is located on the Mississippi River, which runs through the center of the city. It is the only city in the state to have a population of more than 1,000 people. The population was 1,071 at the time of the 2010 Census, down from 1,087 at the start of the 1990s. It has an estimated population of 1,091. It was the first city in Mississippi to be named after a president, Abraham Lincoln, who died in office in 1861. The town's name is derived from the Native American word for "hill" (pronounced "hill") and means "home" or "place" in Native American languages. It also means "town" in Spanish, which means "place of the dead" and "town of the sick" in the Spanish language. The name "Santiago" means "salt of the earth" and is used to refer to the area around the town of Santiago, which was once known as "Santo Domingo" The city's name was first used in the 18th century as a Spanish-language name for the town, and is now used as the name of the town's main street, "Santos".

North Branch and Branch were officially merged on November 14, 1994. The city of Branch is located on the banks of the Youghiogheny River, which runs through North Branch. The town has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in the downtown area of the city. The village has about 1,500 residents, and the city has about 3,000 residents in the surrounding area. It is the only city in the state to have a downtown area that is more than 1,000 years old, and was founded in 1788. The area was once known as the "Youghiagheny River Valley" and was once called the "Branch River Valley".
