Hallock is a city in and the county seat of Kittson County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 906 at the 2020 census. The city was named for Charles Hallock, an American writer. U.S. Highway 75 and Minnesota State Highway 175 are two of the main routes in the city. Hallock was a main filming location in the Coen brothers' 1996 film Brainerd, substituting a fictional version of Minnesota for the real-life town of Hallock due to having a better snowfall. In the 2010 census, there were 981 people, 449 households and 256 families living in Hallock. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.10 square miles (5.44 km²), of which 2.04 square miles of land and 0.16 km² of water. The racial makeup of the city was 98.7% White, 0.1% African American,0.6% Asian, and0.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.8% of the population. The median household income was $37,062, compared with $21,848 for females. History
Hallock was platted in 1879. The city was named for Charles Hallock, an American writer. Hallock was incorporated as a city in 1887. A post office has been in operation at Hallock since 1879, and the city has had a post office since 1887, as well as a mayor and city council. The City of Hallock has a population of 2,000. The town is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the city. It is the only city in the state of Ohio to be named after a U.S. citizen. The population of the town is 2,100, with the majority of its residents living in the central part of the community, which is known as the central business district.

The town is located near the junction of the Minnesota-Illinois border and the Minnesota Turnpike. It is also near the border with Wisconsin. It has a population of 2,816. It was the site of the World War II Battle of the Bulge, which took place in World War I and II. It also is home to the University of Minnesota, which was founded in 1858. The U.N. World Heritage Site is located in the town, which dates back to the 17th century. The United States Geological Survey recorded the town as being in the state of Minnesota in 1881. The state's name is derived from the name of the town's first settler, who arrived in 1883. The current mayor, who was born in 1874, is a native of the city, and his family has lived in the area for more than 100 years. He was elected to the city council in 1998.
